Poles Assess President Nawrocki’s Vetos in New United Surveys Poll

Between July 24 and 25, a United Surveys by IBRIS poll for Wirtualna Polska asked 1,000 adult Poles to evaluate the vetos issued by President Karol Nawrocki.

The United Surveys by IBRIS poll conducted between July 24 and 25 for Wirtualna Polska asked 1,000 adult Poles what they think about the vetos of Karol Nawrocki, presenting respondents with three options.

Substantive Vetos Viewpoint

One response stated that the vetos are “substantive,” chosen by 39.9 percent of all respondents. This view was most commonly held by opposition supporters at 72 percent, alongside 5 percent of ruling coalition sympathizers, 67 percent of voters from Confederation Liberty and Independence and Confederation of the Polish Crown of Grzegorz Braun, with the remainder accounting for 33 percent.

Political Vetos Viewpoint

According to 52.8 percent of respondents, Nawrocki’s vetos are “political.” This answer dominated among sympathizers of the ruling camp at 94 percent, while being significantly less popular among those declaring support for the opposition at 17 percent and Confederation at 13 percent, with the rest making up 57 percent.

Undecided Respondents

The final group of 7.3 percent consisted of respondents who answered “don’t know” or considered it “hard to say.” Among ruling coalition supporters, this was 1 percent, opposition supporters 11 percent, and among voters of both confederations 20 percent, with the remaining group at 10 percent.

Legislative Record and Key Vetos

Karol Nawrocki has vetoed a total of 41 bills since the beginning of his term on August 6, 2025. These concerned, among other things, the introduction of next-of-kin status in relationships, cohabitation agreements, student rights ombudsmen, and prevented the liquidation of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Rejected Chain Law and Regional Language

The head of state did not sign the “chain law,” which introduced requirements for keeping dogs, and also rejected making the Silesian language a regional language.

Controversial Security and Judicial Vetos

High-profile vetos strongly opposed by the government also concerned the SAFE program, which guaranteed Poland nearly 200 billion zlotys for security and armaments. The president likewise rejected amendments to the National Council of the Judiciary act and the Electoral Code, prompting the Civic Coalition to state on Wetomat.pl that Karol Nawrocki’s veto prevented the depoliticization of the NCJ and permitted continued chaos in the courts.
