Poles Name Aleksander Kwaśniewski as Most Trusted Post-1989 President

A new United Surveys poll reveals that 42.5 percent of Poles consider Aleksander Kwaśniewski their most trusted president since 1989, giving him a nearly three-fold lead over his closest successor in the ranking.

Ranking of Presidential Trust

The survey, commissioned by Wirtualna Polska, asked participants to name the president of the Third Polish Republic they trusted the most. Aleksander Kwaśniewski, who served from 1995 to 2005, secured 42.5 percent of the vote. He was followed by Lech Kaczyński with 14.8 percent and current president Karol Nawrocki with 14.3 percent, a difference within the statistical margin of error.

Bronisław Komorowski received 6.2 percent, while Lech Wałęsa garnered 4.1 percent. Andrzej Duda placed second to last with 2.4 percent, and Wojciech Jaruzelski rounded out the list with 0.2 percent. Additionally, 6.7 percent of respondents stated they trust none of the presidents, and 8.8 percent provided no opinion.

Survey Methodology

The study was conducted by United Surveys for IBRiS between June 12 and 14, 2026. It utilized a mix-mode method, combining computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) and online surveys (CAWI) on a representative national sample of 1,000 respondents.

Assessment of President Nawrocki

Recent IBRiS data shows that 51.7 percent of Poles hold a positive view of President Karol Nawrocki, an increase of 3.6 percentage points since the turn of May and June. Conversely, 38.9 percent of respondents evaluated his performance negatively, marking a 9-point decline in negative assessments compared to the previous study.

Nawrocki also leads the latest IBRiS trust ranking with 54.8 percent, an 8.4 percentage point rise from May. This represents the highest result in the history of such studies conducted by IBRiS, placing him 14.2 percentage points ahead of Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.
