Police Secure Human Remains in Lutoryż; Pathologist Facing Charges

Authorities in Lutoryż have concluded a massive forensic operation after discovering 32 human fetuses and medical waste on a private property, leading to the arrest of a 57-year-old pathologist.

Forensic Operation and Discovery

On Wednesday, June 10, medical waste, including human fetal remains, was discovered during excavation work on a property in Lutoryż near Rzeszów. Authorities subsequently secured 32 fetuses from the site.

An extensive procedural operation followed, involving hundreds of police officers from the Rzeszów Municipal and Regional Headquarters, the Preventive Division, and the Forensic Laboratory. Under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office, personnel meticulously sifted through soil layers to recover evidence, aided by specialized cadaver dogs and ground-penetrating radar.

The forensic work was completed on the evening of Saturday, June 13, after which the property was returned to its owners. Local residents, neighbors, and the landowners assisted police throughout the challenging retrieval process, which was complicated by laboratory glass fragments and soil contamination.

Legal Charges Against Magdalena H.

On June 12, the Rzeszów District Prosecutor’s Office arrested 57-year-old pathologist Magdalena H., the former owner of the property. During questioning, the suspect admitted to transporting and burying the fetal remains and other medical waste on the site.

A court has ordered a three-month detention for Magdalena H. She faces charges under Articles 262 and 183 of the Penal Code for the desecration of corpses and the illegal disposal of hazardous waste. The suspect faces up to 12 years in prison.

Professional Disciplinary Proceedings

The Supreme Medical Chamber has initiated proceedings to address the suspect’s professional conduct. As a member of the Rzeszów Medical Chamber, Magdalena H. faces disciplinary action that could result in a permanent ban from practicing medicine.

Jakub Kosikowski, spokesperson for the Supreme Medical Chamber, stated that the organization is consulting closely with the prosecutor’s office. While a court of law may also impose a professional ban, the medical tribunal maintains the authority to pursue the maximum penalty of lifetime expulsion from the medical profession.
