Polish Authorities Apprehend Member of ‘Pink Panthers’ Gang Following Warsaw Jewelry Heist

A 46-year-old Serbian national has been arrested at the Serbian-Croatian border for his involvement in a December 2024 armed robbery at a W. Kruk jewelry store in the Westfield Mokotów shopping center.

On December 30, 2024, three individuals disguised as food delivery workers entered the W. Kruk jewelry store in Warsaw. Wearing masks and carrying thermal backpacks, they incapacitated a security guard with pepper spray and threatened staff with items resembling handguns.

The perpetrators shattered glass display cases and seized jewelry and watches valued at 1.5 million PLN. They fled the scene on electric scooters and a bicycle, which were waiting for them in the parking lot.

Investigation and Forensic Breakthrough

The Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office identified the suspects as Serbian nationals who had arrived in Poland a month prior to the robbery. Investigators tracked their movements through city surveillance footage and recovered clothing items discarded in trash bins, which provided crucial DNA evidence.

Links to International Crime Spree

Authorities have linked the suspects to a series of high-profile jewelry store robberies across Europe, including incidents in Germany, Portugal, and Switzerland. The modus operandi—characterized by rapid, non-lethal strikes and the use of electric scooters—suggests the involvement of the “Pink Panthers.”

The “Pink Panthers” are a notorious loose-knit network of Balkan thieves active for over 30 years. Interpol estimates that between 1999 and 2015, the group executed 380 armed robberies worldwide, resulting in the theft of valuables worth 334 million euros.

Extradition Process Pending

The arrested 46-year-old suspect was apprehended two weeks ago while crossing the border between Serbia and Croatia. The Polish prosecutor’s office has confirmed that they are currently awaiting his extradition.
