Polish Mayors Condemn Attack on Poznań President

Following an incident where the Mayor of Poznań, Jacek Jaśkowiak, was pelted with a cake during a city council session, Polish municipal leaders have issued a joint statement demanding strict punishment for the perpetrator.

During Monday’s city council session, an anarchist disrupted the proceedings just before a vote on a vote of confidence for the mayor. The intruder hit Jacek Jaśkowiak with a cake topped with whipped cream, claiming to act on behalf of residents opposed to the mayor’s policies.

Following the incident, Jaśkowiak stated that this form of violence crossed all acceptable boundaries.

Mayors from across Poland have published a joint statement expressing solidarity with Jaśkowiak, asserting that local government must remain a space for dialogue rather than physical aggression or humiliation.

The signatories, including the mayors of Warsaw, Gdańsk, Wrocław, and Kraków, declared that even in the most intense disputes, there is no place for violence. They have demanded that the perpetrator face appropriate legal consequences for their actions.
