Poznan Kindergarten Massacre Plot Thwarted by Cybercrime Unit

Polish authorities arrested a 29-year-old man who planned a mass killing at a Poznan kindergarten using a machete, after he solicited online users to vote on his intended target.

A Crowd-Sourced Plan for Violence

The Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime exposed a 29-year-old man’s plot to attack a kindergarten in the Grunwald district of Poznan. The suspect had posted a poll online, asking internet users to select which of three specific childcare facilities should be targeted.

In addition to the poll, the suspect detailed his intentions in online posts, stating he planned to use a machete to carry out the murders. He also declared his intent to take his own life following the attack.

Swift Intervention by Authorities

The Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) tracked the suspect within hours of his initial posts. Officers intercepted the man at his residence before he could act on his plans, catching him completely off guard.

Evidence Found at the Scene

During a search of the suspect’s residence, police discovered items that confirmed the online threats were a direct preparation for a crime. These items included a machete and various suspicious substances, proving the threats were not a prank.

Legal Consequences and Detention

The case is now under the supervision of the Poznan-Grunwald District Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect has been charged with preparation for murder and has confessed to the act during his interrogation.

A court has ordered the man to be held in temporary custody for three months. He currently faces a potential prison sentence ranging from two to 15 years.
