Priest Dies During Mass After Wasp Sting

Sudden Death During Service

On June 14, while presiding over a mass in the village of Planica, Slovenia, Father Robert Emeršič was stung by a wasp. As the priest was allergic to the venom, the sting triggered a severe anaphylactic reaction, leading to sudden cardiac arrest.

Parishioners immediately attempted to resuscitate the 51-year-old priest and summoned emergency services. Despite their efforts, Father Emeršič could not be saved, according to reports from the noviny.sk portal.

The parish confirmed the tragic news on social media, expressing deep sorrow over the sudden loss of their pastor. Parish representatives described the news as striking them like a bolt from the blue, noting that life will move forward differently without him.

Eighteen Years of Pastoral Service

Father Robert Emeršič was a Catholic cleric affiliated with the Archdiocese of Maribor. During his 18-year career, he served as a pastor in various local parishes, including the Hoče, Fram, and Rače regions, where he was recognized for his active engagement with the local community.

Following his passing, large crowds gathered at churches in Hoče, Fram, and Rače to attend his funeral. Parishioners remembered him as a dedicated, kind individual who was always prepared to help those in need.
