Puma Spotted in Mazovia: Authorities Issue Urgent Warning

Local authorities in Mazovia have issued an urgent warning to residents after a wild animal was spotted near the village of Osiek-Wólka, urging extreme caution and advising people to avoid nearby forests.

Warning Issued by the Crisis Management Team in Gołymin-Ośrodek

In a statement published on Monday on the website of the Municipal Crisis Management Team in Gołymin-Ośrodek, it is reported that a wild animal was spotted near the village of Osiek-Wólka. The authorities appealed to the residents of this village, as well as people from Osiek-Aleksandrowo, Osiek Górny, and Stare Garnowo, to exercise extreme caution and not to enter forests and wooded areas in these vicinities. They also asked for special attention to be paid to children.

A statement on the matter was also issued by the Poviat Crisis Management Center in Ciechanów. Its authors noted that if the animal is seen, one should not approach it, nor attempt to catch the puma independently or drive it away.

“In the event of sighting the animal or immediate danger, the services should be notified immediately by calling the emergency number 112. We ask for calm, compliance with the instructions of the services, and passing information on to people who may not have access to current announcements,” they emphasized.

Previous Warnings Regarding Pumas

This is not the first warning about a puma. This is another case in recent months where local services are warning residents about a possible feline predator. In July in the Polanów commune (West Pomeranian Voivodeship), after a several-day manhunt, a puma was successfully captured that had been earlier spotted and recorded by a hunter. The animal was placed under veterinary care and will most likely be transferred to a zoological garden.

In the same month, services in the Głogów poviat (Lower Silesian Voivodeship) checked reports regarding the possible appearance of a feline family animal in the Pęcław commune. Residents were asked to be cautious and avoid contact with the predator.

Earlier, at the end of January, a similar alert was announced by the Będzino commune (West Pomeranian Voivodeship), where a camera trap captured an animal resembling a puma or a cheetah near Strachomino. At that time, the predator could not be located.
