Ride-hailing Driver Attacked with Telescopic Baton at Gdański Station; Suspect Arrested

A 36-year-old Warsaw man has been detained following a violent assault on an Azerbaijani ride-hailing driver near Gdański Station on Friday, June 12, after an altercation involving a weapon.

The Assault at Gdański Station

A passenger, who had just boarded the vehicle, witnessed a man run toward the car and kick its wheel. The driver, Naib T., exited the vehicle, and the assailant shouted, “Get out of here!” while the driver questioned his motives in English.

The aggressor then retrieved a telescopic baton from his own vehicle and repeatedly struck the driver in the head and shoulder. The witness documented the incident and the suspect’s license plate while the victim attempted to defend himself.

Emergency Response and Medical Care

Emergency services arrived shortly after the attack was reported. The victim was treated by paramedics on-site and transported to a hospital; follow-up X-rays confirmed no severe head trauma. The victim later provided testimony at the police station with the assistance of a translator and an attorney from the Ocalenie Foundation.

Police Investigation and Legal Charges

Police identified the suspect within hours of the incident. On Sunday, June 14, the 36-year-old Polish citizen turned himself in at the District Police Headquarters on Wilcza Street, accompanied by his lawyer.

The suspect faces charges of causing moderate bodily harm and nationalistic-motivated insults. The case is under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw-Żoliborz, and the accused faces up to five years in prison.
