Romanowski in Transnistria? Czarnek Comments: “Anyone Could Have Mailed Such a Letter”

PiS Vice President Przemysław Czarnek stated that sending a request for a safe conduct letter from Transnistria does not confirm Marcin Romanowski’s presence in the region, adding that such a report would cross a line. . **Body:**

Request for Safe Conduct Sent from Transnistria

An application for a safe conduct letter from former Deputy Minister of Justice and PiS MP Marcin Romanowski was submitted to the Regional Court in Warsaw. The document and envelope indicate that the shipment was sent from Tiraspol in Transnistria, a breakaway region of Moldova supported by Russia.

Czarnek: Location Unimportant to Poles

Asked about these reports on Polsat News, Czarnek emphasized that he does not know Romanowski’s current whereabouts and believes it is of no significance to Poles. When a journalist noted that a stay in Transnistria would still mean crossing a certain line, Czarnek replied that it was a very good statement.

National Prosecutor’s Office Uncertainty

National Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Prosecutor Przemysław Nowak stated that the prosecution is not certain whether the letter was actually sent by Romanowski himself. He noted that while the letter bears a handwritten signature resembling Romanowski’s name, it has not been subjected to handwriting analysis, and the prosecution only has an official statement regarding the possible stay in Transnistria.

Accusations and Legal Status of Romanowski

Romanowski is a suspect in the Justice Fund investigation, facing allegations including participation in an organized criminal group and rigging competitions for fund money. The Warsaw Regional Court previously issued a European Arrest Warrant and an arrest warrant after authorities were unable to locate him. Although he obtained political asylum in Hungary on December 19, 2024, reports in July indicated that Hungary revoked his refugee status and travel documents.
