Search Operation Resumes at Mietkowski Reservoir After SUP Accident

Emergency services have resumed their search at the Mietkowski Reservoir for a man who disappeared while paddleboarding during severe weather on Saturday evening, after one individual was successfully rescued.

The Saturday Incident

The incident occurred on Saturday before 7:00 PM when two men paddleboarding near the beach in Maniów Mały were unable to return to shore due to sudden, severe weather conditions. Both began to drown, leading to an emergency response from WOPR Mietków.

Rescue teams managed to transport one man to safety; however, the second individual could not be located. According to unofficial reports from Radio ZET journalist Grażyna Wiatr, the missing man was not wearing a life jacket.

Underwater Search Efforts

Upon arrival, WOPR rescue teams from Wrocław deployed towed sonars to search the reservoir bed. Firefighters also assisted in the operation using their own sonar equipment, though the search was initially called off shortly after 9:00 PM.

Renewed Rescue Operations

Search activities resumed before sunrise on Sunday with two Water Rescue Service teams returning to the reservoir. They have been joined by the underwater work unit of the Wrocław Water Police, and the joint operation remains ongoing.

Severe Weather Context

The region experienced extreme weather throughout Saturday, characterized by intense storms and heavy rainfall. By 7:00 AM on Sunday, the Lower Silesian fire department had recorded 443 interventions, including clearing fallen trees, securing damaged roofs, and pumping water from flooded properties.
