Serial Drunk Driver Jailed in Radom After Repeatedly Violating Driving Bans

Prosecutors in Radom have successfully secured a three-month pre-trial detention for a 38-year-old woman caught driving with nearly 2.7 permills of alcohol despite multiple active bans.

Repeat Offender Caught Drunk Again

Renata R. was previously convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol. She has now violated a court-mandated driving ban while simultaneously facing at least two other ongoing proceedings for similar offenses, as stated on Tuesday by Cezary Ołtarzewski, head of the Radom-East District Prosecutor’s Office. During her latest police stop, the woman was found to have nearly 2.7 permills of alcohol in her system.

Prosecution Seeks Pre-Trial Detention

Based on these findings, the prosecutor’s office filed a motion with the court requesting pre-trial detention. Prosecutor Ołtarzewski pointed to the high degree of social harmfulness and the recidivist nature of the woman’s crimes.

High Risk to Public Safety Cited

The motion for the arrest of 38-year-old Renata R. was also justified by fears that she would once again get behind the wheel while intoxicated and commit another crime. In the investigators’ view, the 38-year-old posed a significant threat to road safety.

Court Approves Isolation Measure

The court agreed to temporarily detain the woman for three months. According to investigators, this is the first recent case in the Radom district where an isolation preventive measure has been applied in such a situation. Renata R. faces up to 5 years in prison for the alleged offenses.

Fast-Track Judgment in Separate Radom Case

In late June, Radom police reported the detention of another intoxicated 50-year-old female driver in the county. Like the 38-year-old, this woman was subject to a judicial driving ban. Police implemented an expedited procedure, leading to the driver being swiftly brought before a court to hear her sentence. The court imposed an 8-month prison term, a lifetime driving ban, and a 10,000 PLN payment to the Fund for Aid to Victims and Post-Penitentiary Assistance, though the verdict is not final, according to the Municipal Police Headquarters in Radom.

A1 Highway Citizen’s Arrest and Subsequent Action

In late July on the A1 motorway near Częstochowa, journalists from a television station carried out a citizen’s arrest of an intoxicated driver who had caused a collision. The 36-year-old, Krzysztof K., also had court-ordered driving bans. Initially, the prosecution did not request pre-trial detention. After the case gained public attention, Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek decided to dismiss the deputy district prosecutor in Lubliniec, and the Częstochowa District Prosecutor’s Office took over the case, successfully petitioning for arrest.
