Storm Strikes Warsaw
After 5 PM on Monday, August 10, a storm passed over Warsaw. While its course was relatively mild in most districts, very strong wind gusts appeared in Targówek and Praga-Północ. Firefighters recorded at least a dozen interventions primarily related to fallen trees and branches, and a building roof was damaged at Haller Square.
The storm appeared over Warsaw after 5 PM. Across most of the city, it was accompanied mainly by thunder and rainfall. However, a significantly more violent course of the phenomenon was recorded in the north-eastern part of the capital.
Intense Winds in Targówek and Praga-Północ
In Targówek and Praga-Północ, the storm was accompanied by very strong, gusty winds. As readers inform us, the most violent part of the phenomenon lasted a very time short – the strongest gusts reportedly lasted for about 1 to 2 minutes.
Despite the short duration, it was enough to cause numerous damages.
On Kołowa Street, a tree fell onto the roadway. A similar incident occurred on Tykocińska Street. The strong wind also damaged several stalls belonging to street vendors.
Dozens of Firefighter Interventions
Firefighters recorded at least a dozen interventions related to the passage of the violent wind. Most reports came from the Praga-Północ area.
Operations were carried out, among others, on Nieporęcka, Starzyńskiego, Rembielińska, Stalowa, Kołowa, Stolarska, Szanajcy, Tykocińska, and Oszmiańska streets, as well as on Haller Square.
On Starzyńskiego Street, a tree fell onto a parking lot, damaging cars parked there. Meanwhile, on Haller Square, the roof of one of the buildings was damaged.
The reports primarily concerned the effects of the strong wind – fallen trees, branches, and other elements damaged during the short but intense storm.
