Severe Storms Across Poland Trigger Over 2,000 Firefighter Interventions

Intense storms across Poland have forced emergency services to conduct over 2,000 operations, ranging from clearing fallen trees and flooded cellars to securing damaged residential roofs amid widespread power outages.

Operations in the Silesian Region

Most interventions in the Silesian Voivodeship, totaling over 500, were caused by strong wind gusts. Chorzów saw the highest volume of activity with approximately 100 calls, followed by Będzin with 78 and Wodzisław with 63.

City officials in Chorzów reported a busy evening as firefighters addressed reports of fallen trees, flooded streets, and clogged drainage systems caused by intense rainfall.

Storm Impacts in Świętokrzyskie and Subcarpathia

In the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, firefighters recorded 293 interventions by 10:00 PM, primarily in the Stalowa Wola, Tarnobrzeg, and Mielec counties. Strong winds damaged or destroyed 38 residential and utility roofs, and emergency crews evacuated nearly 100 scouts from four separate camps to safer nearby buildings.

Podkarpackie firefighters responded to 84 incidents, mostly on Wednesday evening. The night remained relatively calm, with only three calls recorded after midnight.

Damage and Power Outages in Lublin

Lublin firefighters managed 344 reports, focusing on clearing trees and branches. Between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM, the region saw 46 damaged roofs and 63 cases of flooded rooms or cellars, with the most severe damage reported in the Puławy, Ryki, Radzyń, and Opole counties.
