Simpler 800 Plus Rules: How Automated Renewals Prevent Benefit Losses

The Polish Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy is planning legislative changes for 2027 to introduce automatic annual renewals for the 800 plus child-rearing benefit, eliminating the need for recurring parent applications and preventing missed payouts.

Simpler 800 Plus Rules and Upcoming 2027 Changes

The 800 plus child-rearing benefit is widely recognized as vital financial support for child-rearing expenses. The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy plans to introduce simplifications to protect recipients from losing part of their benefits, a frequent issue under current regulations.

By the end of July 2026, a bill prepared by the Ministry amending the state aid act in child-rearing (bill UDER106) was submitted to the legal committee. Its goal is to simplify and streamline the granting of the 800 plus benefit.

Automatic Renewals and Practical Implications

The primary assumption of the amendment is the introduction of automatic annual renewals of the right to the benefit for the next settlement period. Consequently, parents or other eligible entities will no longer need to submit a separate application.

This change relieves parents and guardians from tracking deadlines, the failure of which can result in the forfeiture of funds. However, applications will still be required in cases of a newborn child or returning from abroad, and families retain the right to modify applications if their family situation changes.

System Modernization and Current Application Deadlines

These proposed changes require modifications to the ZUS IT system, aligning with policies to increase administrative efficiency and reduce costs through digitization and automation. The legislative progress indicates the Ministry intends to apply the new rules to the subsequent benefit period.

Currently, applications are submitted for a settlement period running from June to May. Submitting applications in July or later results in the loss of benefits for one or more months, as the allowance is granted starting from the month the application is filed.

Electronic Procedures and Eligible Beneficiaries

Both applications and determinations of eligibility are conducted electronically through ZUS via the eZUS platform, mZUS mobile app, emp@tia portal, or electronic banking. Benefits are disbursed exclusively through bank transfers, and approvals are communicated via eZUS messages rather than formal administrative decisions.

Currently, eligible applicants include parents, factual caregivers, legal guardians, foster care providers, and social welfare home directors. The 2027 amendment expands this catalog to include individuals exercising court-awarded direct custody over a child.
