A 19-year-old assailant attacked two patients with a knife at a hospital in Jastrzębie-Zdrój on Thursday evening, before being disarmed and held by a wounded physician until police arrived.

The Attack and Victim Status
Emergency services received reports of the attack shortly after 6:00 p.m. The 19-year-old suspect entered the hospital, moved into patient rooms, and stabbed two women. A doctor and a nurse intervened, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Four people were injured in total: two patients, a doctor, and a nurse. The doctor and both patients remain in serious but stable condition with stab wounds to the chest, with one individual also sustaining neck injuries. The nurse suffered injuries to her hand.
Official Response and Security
Robert Ostrowski, director of the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, praised the injured physician for his heroic actions in subduing the attacker, who used a knife several dozen centimeters long. The facility confirmed after 8:00 p.m. that staff and patients are now safe and standard security procedures have been implemented.
The Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Silesian branch of the National Health Fund (NFZ), is monitoring the situation and offering support. Katarzyna Adamek, director of the Silesian NFZ, has traveled to the hospital.
Recent Hospital Incident in Racibórz
In early June, police in Racibórz arrested a 71-year-old patient who threatened hospital staff with a knife after being reprimanded for inappropriate behavior. The man has been charged with issuing criminal threats against medical personnel and is currently under police supervision.
