Stabbing Attack at Jastrzębie-Zdrój Hospital: Prosecutor Investigates Attempted Murder

Prosecutors are investigating an attempted murder case after a 19-year-old suspect attacked four people with a kitchen knife at a hospital in Jastrzębie-Zdrój on Thursday evening.

Investigation into Attempted Murder

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Jastrzębie-Zdrój has launched an investigation into the attempted murder of multiple individuals, as confirmed by Agnieszka Bukowska, spokesperson for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Gliwice.

Authorities have secured the 15-centimeter kitchen knife used in the attack and conducted crime scene examinations. Investigators have also questioned key witnesses and secured surveillance footage from the hospital.

Details of the Hospital Attack

The incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 6:00 PM on the second floor of the hospital’s Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine Ward. The perpetrator, 19-year-old Damian B., attacked the department head, a nurse, and two patients.

The suspect was subdued and detained by police. Preliminary tests indicate that the individual was under the influence of narcotics. Police report that the suspect had no prior criminal record and have found no evidence that any of his relatives were patients at the facility.

Condition of the Victims

Hospital director Robert Ostrowski stated that the wounded doctor successfully subdued the attacker until police arrived. The doctor and two patients sustained stab wounds to the chest, while one patient also suffered neck injuries requiring surgery.

Medical staff report that the condition of the hospitalized victims is stable. The injured doctor is undergoing treatment in the Thoracic Surgery Ward, while the nurse, who suffered a hand injury, has already returned home.
