Szłapka on Nawrocki’s Poisoning Claims: An Odd Team to Keep Secret

Government Spokesperson Adam Szłapka questioned the silence of Karol Nawrocki’s associates following the former presidential candidate’s claims of being poisoned during a 2025 campaign stop in southwestern Poland.

The Poisoning Allegations

During a post-cabinet meeting press conference, Adam Szłapka addressed claims from a new book about Karol Nawrocki. The book suggests that on May 15, 2025, while in Ząbkowice Śląskie and Dzierżoniów, Nawrocki suffered a sudden loss of consciousness and convulsions, leading him to speculate he had been poisoned.

Szłapka noted that the incident was never reported to law enforcement, calling the situation surprising. He expressed hope that the Presidential Office’s legal department would respond to such situations more effectively than Nawrocki’s former associates from the PiS party.

Dworczyk’s Perspective on the Incident

Michał Dworczyk, who accompanied Nawrocki that day, confirmed the health crisis occurred but stated he was outside the candidate’s bus at the time. He claimed no knowledge of what transpired inside the vehicle, where Nawrocki was attended to by his closest staff members.

The individuals reportedly present included photographer Mikołaj Bujak, assistant Jakub Nadstawny, and Jarosław Dębowski. The prosecutor’s office has since launched a preliminary investigation into the matter, which Dworczyk stated he would wait for the results of before making further assessments.

Government Concerns Regarding Hospital Scandals

Szłapka also addressed the ongoing crisis at the Southern Hospital in Warsaw, following testimony from Dr. Emil Jędrzejewski. He questioned why allegations from whistleblowers regarding hospital operations were not reported to authorities sooner.

Further reports suggest illegal activities involving a funeral business operating out of the hospital’s morgue. Szłapka stated that the Ministry of Health is expanding its inspection and that the prosecutor’s office must intervene, as several of the allegations are criminal in nature.

New Role for Sobkowiak-Czarnecka

Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka was officially introduced as the new Government Plenipotentiary for State Resilience. Szłapka praised her ability to successfully execute complex projects.

Sobkowiak-Czarnecka explained her new role will involve coordinating efforts within the defense industry, ensuring the timely completion of SAFE mechanism contracts, and focusing on defense education. This role serves as a continuation of her previous work with the SAFE framework.
