The Cut-Off Date for Seniority Bonuses

The Regional Audit Chamber (RIO) in Krakow has resolved disputes regarding the Teacher’s Charter amendments effective January 1, 2026. The key factor in determining eligibility for the increased 300% or new 400% salary bonuses is the precise date a teacher reaches their required years of service.

The amendment increased the 40-year service award from 250% to 300% of the monthly salary and introduced a 400% award for 45 years of service. Eligibility for these higher tiers applies only to those who reach the required seniority after December 31, 2025.

Eligibility and Calculation Discrepancies

Teachers who achieved 40 years of service before January 1, 2026, remain entitled to the original 250% bonus, regardless of when the payout occurs. Conversely, those hitting the milestone in 2026 or later qualify for the updated higher rates.

This creates significant financial disparities between peers with nearly identical service records. For a teacher earning 8,000 PLN gross, the difference between the old and new rules can result in a bonus gap of 4,000 PLN.

Award Calculation and Components

Jubilee awards are not based solely on base salary. The calculation includes various components consistent with holiday pay regulations, such as specific bonuses and compensation for overtime hours.

The timing of the payout can also affect the final amount. If a teacher receives a salary increase after becoming eligible but before the bonus is paid, the benefit may be calculated based on the more favorable salary rate effective on the date of payment.
