A severe storm system swept through Poland on Sunday, June 14, causing a downed power line to electrocute horses in a fenced enclosure in Zalesie, resulting in three animal fatalities.

On Sunday, June 14, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued first-degree storm warnings across 11 Polish provinces, forecasting rainfall up to 25 mm and wind gusts reaching 75 km/h. Amid these conditions, the Konin Municipal Fire Brigade received a report at 9:25 a.m. regarding a downed power line in Zalesie, Krzymów municipality.

Fatalities and Rescue Operations

The fallen line caused a lethal electrical discharge in a fenced field where horses were kept. Firefighters from Konin and Brzeźno, police, and power utility crews responded to the scene. While three horses succumbed to electrocution, emergency responders successfully evacuated three other animals from the enclosure.

Authorities emphasize that storms pose significant risks to both humans and animals. During high winds, residents are advised to secure loose objects on balconies and windowsills, close all openings, and disconnect electrical and gas appliances.
