Three-Year-Old Found Standing on Third-Floor Ledge in Łódź

On Sunday afternoon, June 14, police and firefighters rescued a three-year-old child left unattended in a third-floor apartment on Podrzeczna Street in Łódź after he was seen standing on a ledge.

The incident occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14. According to police reports, the toddler was spotted on a third-floor window ledge wearing only a diaper. Surveillance footage released by authorities shows the child throwing objects out of the window.

Emergency intervention and rescue

Upon arrival, police and firefighters quickly identified the correct apartment by consulting neighbors. An officer rushed to the unit, where they discovered the three-year-old had been left entirely without supervision. The responders cared for the boy, changing his diaper and dressing him before medical personnel transported him to a hospital for evaluation.

Father’s explanation

The boy’s father returned to the apartment while emergency crews were still on-site. He claimed he had left the toddler sleeping while taking his other child and the dog for a short walk, insisting the window was closed when he departed. Police spokesperson Kamila Sowińska noted that the father’s explanation does not excuse the negligence.

Potential legal consequences

Officers from the 5th Police Precinct in Łódź are conducting an investigation under the supervision of the Łódź-Bałuty District Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities are gathering evidence, as the incident may be classified as exposing a child to a direct danger of loss of life or health, an offense punishable by up to five years in prison.
