Trams Return to Aleje Jerozolimskie Starting Monday, August 3

Starting Monday, August 3, trams will resume operating on renovated tracks in Aleje Jerozolimskie, restoring direct connections from Ochota to central Warsaw and the National Museum stop.

Resumption of Tram Services on Renovated Tracks

From Monday, August 3, trams will once again run on the renovated tracks in Aleje Jerozolimskie, restoring traffic from Ochota to the center of Warsaw. Passengers on line 9 will travel from the P+R Aleja Krakowska loop to the National Museum stop near General Charles de Gaulle Roundabout.

The return of trams is made possible by the completion of major works on two track sections outside the Poniatowski Bridge viaduct. Work was also carried out on Grójecka Street between Zawisza Square and Narutowicz Square, restoring a direct tram connection from Ochota and Włochy to the city center.

Line 9 will return to its route in Aleje Jerozolimskie, running from P+R Aleja Krakowska via Aleja Krakowska, Grójecka Street, Zawisza Square, and Aleje Jerozolimskie to the National Museum 05 stop. Afterward, cars will cross General Charles de Gaulle Roundabout without passengers and change direction at a temporary crossover turnout, with the return trip toward Ochota starting at the National Museum 06 stop.

Track Modernization and Emergency Access

The renovation included replacing rails and rebuilding the track bed, alongside work on five track crossings and the surfaces of selected stops. The track paving was designed to preserve the ability of ambulances, fire engines, and other emergency vehicles to pass through.

The launch of tram services does not mark the end of all work in Aleje Jerozolimskie, as the contractor will spend about two to three weeks on finishing touches near curbs and stop islands. Local roadway narrowing may occur in the work area, and trams will temporarily move at reduced speeds.

Changes to Public Transport Lines

Starting August 3, the basic route of line 1 will also be restored, running between Żerań Wschodni or Annopol and the P+R Aleja Krakowska or Banacha loops. Lines 7, 22, and 24 will remain on altered routes, line 79 will be suspended, and line 73 will run on a modified route from Kawęczyńska-Bazylika loop to Czynszowa Street.

Trams will still not cross the Poniatowski Bridge; lines 7, 22, and 24 will remain diverted to routes used during the renovation. Connections between the center and the right-bank part of Warsaw will be supplemented by replacement buses Z-9 and Z21, with line Z-9 running between Starynkiewicz Square and Wiatraczna Roundabout.

Tram traffic along Aleje Jerozolimskie, Poniatowski Bridge, and Poniatowski Avenue was suspended on May 30 during a renovation covering the section from Starynkiewicz Square to Waszyngton Roundabout. From August 3, passengers will again use the section from Ochota to General Charles de Gaulle Roundabout, though crossing the Vistula River remains impossible until further work is completed.
