Donald Trump held separate, lengthy telephone conversations with both Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin on Sunday, covering topics ranging from war and diplomacy to birthday wishes and future negotiations.

Direct Communication with Kyiv

The Ukrainian presidential office confirmed that Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with Donald Trump. Dmytro Lytwyn, an advisor to the Ukrainian president, described the call as substantive and wide-ranging, lasting approximately 30 to 35 minutes.

The conversation encompassed various topics, including birthday greetings for Trump, diplomacy, and discussions regarding potential peace negotiations. Further details regarding the content of these talks are expected to be released at a later time.

Consultations with Moscow

On the same day, Russian state agency TASS reported that Trump also spoke with Vladimir Putin. According to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, the call lasted 55 minutes, during which Trump expressed his desire to end the conflict in Ukraine.

Russian accounts indicate that Trump signaled a readiness to influence Kyiv and U.S. European allies. The conversation also touched upon the finalization of a U.S.-Iran agreement and plans for special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to visit Russia. Additionally, Putin reiterated his willingness to meet with Zelensky in Moscow.

Diplomatic Expectations at the G7 Summit

Zelensky is expected to attend the three-day G7 summit in Evian-Les-Bains, France, where Trump is also scheduled to be present. While an official meeting between the two leaders is not currently on the agenda, reports suggest that a face-to-face encounter remains a possibility.
