Trzcianka: Armed 19-Year-Old Shot by Police After Attacking Officers and Killing His Father

Following a domestic intervention call in Trzcianka on Saturday, police officers shot a 19-year-old attacker armed with a machete-like object after he injured an officer and his father was found dead outside.

Domestic Intervention Turns Violent

According to Superintendent Maciej Święcichowski from the Greater Poland Police press team, cited by PAP, officers in Trzcianka received a report regarding a domestic intervention on Saturday before 8:00 PM. Upon arrival, officers were attacked with an object resembling a machete.

One of the police officers was injured in the hand. Because their health and lives were endangered and the attacker failed to obey commands, two officers used their firearms and shot the attacker. The wounded attacker and the injured officer were both taken to the hospital.

Discovery of the Victim

In front of the apartment block where police were called, officers found the body of a man, identified by Superintendent Święcichowski as the attacker’s father. Unfortunately, the man’s life could not be saved.

Magdalena Roman of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Trzcianka stated that the 55-year-old wounded man managed to get outside the apartment building, where he was noticed by a neighbor who called an ambulance. When police arrived, the 55-year-old was already lying outside and being treated by paramedics.

Sequence of Events and Investigation

According to portal reports, at the time of the intervention, an armed man ran out of the stairwell, attacked one of the officers, and then ran to his father, inflicting further blows around the head and neck. Preliminary findings indicate the 19-year-old first attacked his 55-year-old father inside the apartment, with the teenager reportedly striking blows to the head and neck area.

Currently, investigations under the supervision of a prosecutor are underway to determine the exact course of events, and the motive is not yet known. An autopsy of the victim and procedural activities with the detained man are planned for Monday, and the prosecutor’s office also plans to submit a motion to the court for the temporary arrest of the 19-year-old.

Medical Status of the Injured

The detained 19-year-old sustained two gunshot wounds to the torso. Duty doctor Marek Wegner explained to TVN24 that one wound is in the chest without penetration and is a through-and-through wound, while the second is in the left lower abdomen, also through-and-through, accompanied by a fracture and detachment of a fragment of the iliac wing.

Meanwhile, the injured police officer sustained cut wounds to his left hand without damage to essential structures, and the wound is healing properly, according to Dr. Wegner.
