Tusk Calls for Inquiry into VIP Treatment Allegations at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has demanded a full investigation into reports of an unofficial, fast-track medical service for politicians and their families at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital, labeling the situation a systemic failure.

Allegations of VIP Access

The news portal Zero.pl reported that an unofficial, expedited admission path for Civic Coalition (KO) politicians and their families allegedly existed at the emergency department of Warsaw’s Southern Hospital. Reports suggest that select individuals were examined within minutes, while other patients with lower priority waited hours.

The portal also claims that these VIPs were provided access to a private room equipped with a sofa, armchairs, and a television.

Official Response and Political Consequences

Prime Minister Donald Tusk addressed the report during a press conference, emphasizing that the matter requires a transparent explanation regardless of who is implicated. Tusk demanded that Warsaw’s local government, as the hospital’s owner, provide a precise report on the alleged VIP facilities and medical access.

Tusk noted that the physician featured in the report has resigned from his political party at the Prime Minister’s suggestion. He asserted that if the doctor wishes to continue practicing medicine, he should withdraw from all public activities.

Legal and Disciplinary Action

The Prime Minister stated that the response will depend on the outcome of official inspections. If legal violations are found, the matter will be referred to the prosecutor; if only ethical standards were breached, political accountability will follow.

Tusk confirmed that consequences will extend to politicians within his own party if investigations confirm they were responsible for abuses. However, he clarified that Marcin Kierwiński, Minister of the Interior and head of Warsaw’s KO structures, would not face such repercussions.

Zero.pl documented multiple instances from 2025 involving KO politicians and state officials receiving diagnostic tests, such as colonoscopies and CT scans, in significantly shorter timeframes than the average patient. The portal stated that the names of the patients were withheld to protect privacy, though data concerning the most concerning cases has been forwarded to the National Health Fund.

Tusk framed the Southern Hospital incident as part of a wider crisis in public healthcare, citing high medical staff salaries, multiple concurrent employment contracts, and a lack of transparency. He noted that the current climate of discretion prevents the state from effectively monitoring how public funds are spent.

The Prime Minister has ordered comprehensive inspections across the healthcare sector to identify systemic flaws and, where necessary, pursue legal remedies.
