Tusk on Polish Airspace Violation: Poland Was Not the Target

Following a massive Russian attack on Ukraine, Prime Minister Donald Tusk inspected the impact site in Tarnawa-Kolonia, stating there is no evidence Poland was targeted.

Inspection of the Impact Site in Tarnawa-Kolonia

Following a coordination team meeting in Lublin, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, and Minister of Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński visited the vicinity of Tarnawa-Kolonia. The site is where an object fell during Thursday morning’s massive Russian attack on Ukraine, violating Polish airspace.

Tusk stated there is no reason to believe Poland was the target, though two objects violated Polish airspace. One definitely did, leaving physical traces, while the second crossed near the Polish border with a very short signal and no consequences.

Analysis of the Missile and Investigation into State Response

The prime minister noted that the crater near Tarnawa—approximately 10 meters in diameter and up to 5 meters deep—indicates a high probability that the missile exploded. Experts and military personnel point to a Russian Kh-101 missile based on recovered elements.

Tusk announced that the state will thoroughly examine all aspects of the Russian and Ukrainian actions, as well as the state’s response, to continuously improve reaction protocols. He added that military reports indicate everything functioned as it should.

Planned Changes to the Government Centre for Security (RCB)

Residents of the Lublin region heard air raid sirens in the morning, but RCB alerts were not dispatched. Addressing journalists in Tarnawa-Kolonia, Donald Tusk acknowledged a procedural gap.

Tusk stated that SMS messages must be used not only to inform about threats but also to send reassuring messages to the public once a threat has been canceled. He promised to prepare these changes very quickly.
