Two Drunk Drivers, One Car: A Reckless Escape Attempt in Bielsk

Police in Bielsk detained two intoxicated men who took turns driving the same vehicle while attempting to evade a traffic stop, with both men already facing court-ordered driving bans.

A Daring Midnight Escape

On July 10, 2026, just after midnight, officers patrolling Bielsk identified a Skoda with faulty lighting. When police attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver accelerated, turned onto a side street, abandoned the car, and fled on foot. Officers quickly apprehended the 29-year-old suspect.

A Second Attempt Behind the Wheel

To the officers’ surprise, the vehicle began moving again after the first driver fled. It was discovered that the passenger had taken the wheel to continue the escape. Police promptly stopped the car again and detained the 35-year-old driver.

Serious Charges and Endangerment

Breathalyzer tests revealed the 29-year-old had over 2.0 per mille of alcohol in his system and was under a lifetime driving ban. The 35-year-old had over 1.5 per mille and two separate court-ordered driving prohibitions. A sober 31-year-old woman and three children were also passengers in the vehicle.

Legal Consequences for the Detainees

Both men were taken into custody and will face court charges for drunk driving and violating judicial bans. The 29-year-old will additionally be held accountable for transporting more passengers than the vehicle’s technical capacity allows.
