The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that while Poland remains open to cooperation, the principle of reciprocity and genuine solidarity must be upheld. He noted that Ukraine possesses significant drone production capabilities, suggesting that the country could share its technology in exchange for military assistance.

Modernization Costs and Financing

Regarding the modernization of the aging jets, Kosiniak-Kamysz clarified that Poland will not bear the financial burden. He suggested that costs must be covered by Ukraine or third-party allied nations, similar to the current co-financing models used for repairing Krab howitzers or Leopard tanks.

Historical Context of the MiG-29 Negotiations

The Polish General Staff previously stated in December 2025 that the MiG-29s are nearing the end of their operational lifespan with no plans for further domestic modernization. Previous attempts to exchange the aircraft for Ukrainian drone and missile technologies failed to reach a conclusion, though officials maintain that a successful transfer depends on finalizing these technological agreements.
