Ukrainian Woman Attacked With Walking Cane in Gdynia; Similar Assault Reported in Wrocław

A Ukrainian woman was struck in the head with a wooden cane in Gdynia, following a separate recent assault involving a Ukrainian couple in Wrocław.

“According to preliminary police findings, the woman was struck twice in the back of the head by an unknown man using a wooden walking cane,” stated Aspirant Marek Kobiałko from the Gdynia police press team to tvn24.pl.

The incident was also mentioned by the trojmiasto.pl portal, which published footage of the event. Police stated that current findings do not indicate the incident was a hate crime motivated by nationality.

As a result of the attack, the woman sustained injuries with her face and clothing covered in blood. She reported being attacked while talking on the phone, struck with something “dreadfully hard,” and did not see the perpetrator. The victim was transported to the Municipal Hospital in Gdynia, where she received medical assistance and was discharged after examinations; her life is not in danger.

Not the First Attack of This Kind

On Sunday, July 26, on Okulickiego Street in Wrocław, a Ukrainian couple was beaten by three aggressors. The incident began with a dispute in a Żabka store when the men began hurling insults at 20-year-old Anastasia after she pointed out that they cut ahead of her in line. The attackers then assaulted her 21-year-old boyfriend Maksym, who was waiting by a car, beating him three-on-one while the girl attempted to film the event and received a blow to the head. A third man joined the first two and kicked Maksim in the head.

The victims were taken to the hospital, where they were diagnosed with concussions, and the woman also required stitches for an ear wound. Two of the aggressors have already been detained and face prison sentences. Police and prosecutors secured surveillance footage. One of the attackers, Adam C., nicknamed “Cycu,” was previously sentenced to 10 years for violence and faces 7.5 years in prison due to recidivism, while his companion, Tomasz M., may receive a 5-year sentence.

Adam C. was connected to the Gromda bare-knuckle fighting federation, whose owner Mariusz Grabowski stated after the incident that the federation “has nothing to do with it.” However, xenophobic content inciting violence had previously appeared multiple times on its Facebook profile, prompting a separate prosecutor’s investigation.
