Defense Minister Highlights Challenging Night
“An extremely difficult night for our air defense, observation and threat detection systems,” wrote Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on X, thanking General Ireneusz Nowak, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces, and everyone who monitored and responded to events over Ukraine and Polish airspace.
Military Detects Unidentified Object
The Operational Command of the Armed Forces reported on Thursday morning that an unidentified object moving westward was detected in Polish airspace at 3:40 AM, prompting the scramble of an on-duty F-16 fighter jet.
Helicopter Locates Crash Site
At 3:46 AM, before a definitive identification could be made, the object vanished from radar systems, leading to the deployment of an Mi-24 helicopter that located the probable crash site in an uninhabited area near Tarnawa-Kolonia.
Government and Authorities Respond
Prime Minister Donald Tusk traveled to the Lubelskie region in the morning and convened a coordination committee, while police and firefighters secured a roughly ten-meter crater discovered in a field containing scattered debris.
