Unidentified Object Falls in Lublin Voivodeship As Prosecutor’s Office Confirms Ukrainian Experts May Assist Poland

Following a loud blast reported by a resident in the Biłgoraj poviat, Polish authorities are investigating an unidentified object that fell in Tarnawa-Kolonia, with Ukrainian experts potentially joining the probe.

Report of a Loud Blast and Initial Response

Grzegorz Trusiewicz, Head of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin, announced at a press briefing in Tarnawa-Kolonia that a resident of the Biłgoraj poviat notified services about a loud blast before 4:00 AM. Police were first at the scene and located the crash site.

Approximately 100 officers from various services, including the military and police, are working in Tarnawa-Kolonia, alongside four prosecutors directly supervising the inspection. Around 50 Territorial Defense Forces personnel are also expected to arrive to help investigators comb the area.

Ukrainian Assistance and Investigation Details

Ukraine wants to help Poland investigate the object in Tarnawa-Kolonia. An official request for assistance has been submitted by the Ukrainian side, as their specialists deal most frequently with such incidents.

Prosecutor Trusiewicz stated that the request is currently being reviewed and experts may arrive to help identify the element that entered Polish airspace. The investigation is being conducted under the heading of causing a disaster in air traffic, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

Context of Massive Russian Attacks and Military Readiness

The incident occurred in connection with a massive Russian attack on Ukraine, targeting locations such as Kyiv, Lviv, and Kryvyi Rih. In Kryvyi Rih, an Iskander-M ballistic missile directly hit a residential building, resulting in six deaths, including two children, and eight injuries.

Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, Maj. Gen. Ireneusz Nowak, stated during a coordination team meeting that two missiles directly threatened Poland and fighters were in position to shoot them down if they continued their flight. According to prosecutor estimates, the crater is approximately 10 meters in diameter and 5 meters deep, with debris scattered over 200 meters.

In addition to aviation and the fire brigade, a Ground Search and Rescue Team and police counter-terrorists were dispatched to the site. The Military Gendarmerie, Internal Security Agency, Military Counterintelligence Service, and the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin were also notified, while police secured the area around the crater.
