Severe weather forced the evacuation of thousands at the National Mall in Washington D.C. on Saturday, delaying Donald Trump’s planned Independence Day speech and fireworks display by 90 minutes.

Due to the threat of storms, federal authorities ordered thousands of people gathered at the National Mall to evacuate and seek shelter in nearby government buildings and museums. Despite the directive, some attendees remained at the site of the 250th anniversary celebration.

Donald Trump insisted on delivering his speech regardless of the conditions, noting on Truth Social that he would wait out the weather. The event, originally scheduled for 9:45 PM, ultimately commenced with a 1.5-hour delay after the crowd size dwindled from approximately 375,000 to 150,000.

Record-Breaking Heat and Political Rhetoric

The city recorded temperatures reaching nearly 39 degrees Celsius, breaking a 1919 record for July 4. During his 35-minute address, which was attended by family and cabinet members, the President emphasized national pride and described the United States as the most unique nation on Earth.

Trump addressed the crowd on the dangers of communism, labeling it a lethal threat that must be cut out as quickly as a cancer. He advocated for the Save America Act and reiterated his commitment to keeping the country free from communist influence, citing the sacrifices of American soldiers.
