Selection of the General Contractor
The largest concert hall in Poland will soon be built in Warsaw’s Praga-Południe district. The tender for the general contractor of the second phase of the Sinfonia Varsovia investment at Grochowska Street has been resolved. Out of three entities qualified for the tender, the company Warbud S.A. was selected.
Details of the New Concert Hall
The second phase involves the construction of Poland’s largest concert hall, which will seat 1,877 people. The auditorium will be arranged around the stage, bringing the audience close to the performers, and the hall will also be visible from a large foyer through high glass walls.
Additional Facilities in the Complex
As part of the investment, a chamber hall for approximately 400 seats, practice rooms, storage facilities, and backstages for artists and the technical team will also be created.
Warbud S.A.’s Track Record
Warbud S.A. has previously built the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic in Białystok, the headquarters of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin, and the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.
Architectural Design and Promenade
The project also includes the renovation of two northern outbuildings and the construction of an openwork frame surrounding the Sinfonia Varsovia area, featuring a promenade at a height of 21 meters to admire the surrounding panorama and city center.
Public Garden and Financing
A garden connected to the nearby park will also be created on the complex grounds as another public space for residents. The investment is financed by the Capital City of Warsaw and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
History of the Site
In 2010, the Capital City of Warsaw handed over the buildings of the former Veterinary Institute at 272 Grochowska Street—built in the late 19th century—to Sinfonia Varsovia, a cultural institution co-managed from April 2026 by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
Design Competition and First Phase
In the same year, an international architectural competition for the new headquarters was won by Atelier Thomas Pucher from Graz. The investment received a building permit in 2019, and the contract for the first phase of work was signed in 2023.
Opening of Modernized Buildings
The revitalization of the two historic pavilions and the main building is currently concluding, creating two chamber halls, office rooms, and educational spaces. Sinfonia Varsovia will begin operations in the renovated buildings in a month, accompanied by the “Sinfonia Varsovia – New Opening” festival.
Volunteer Opportunities for September 2026
September 2026 will be full of music and meetings, and those who want to volunteer can join to help create the festival atmosphere, gain experience, and become part of Sinfonia Varsovia’s history.
