When Will Storms Return? IMGW Issues Alerts for 8 Voivodeships as Winds Reach 115 km/h

IMGW has issued severe heat and storm warnings across Poland for Monday, August 10, with temperatures climbing to 34 degrees Celsius and damaging winds reaching up to 115 km/h.

Heat Wave Persists Across Western Poland

Monday, August 10, is shaping up to be very hot, but high temperatures will not be the only problem. In parts of the country during the afternoon and evening, violent storms with intense rainfall may appear. IMGW warnings cover a large part of Poland, and some of them are of the second degree.

The most serious high-temperature warnings concern the western part of Poland. A second-degree alert is in effect across the predominant area of the Lubusz Voivodeship and in parts of the Lower Silesian and West Pomeranian Voivodeships. According to IMGW, the maximum temperature there may reach from 30 to 34 degrees Celsius.

First-Degree Heat Alerts Issued Nationwide

First-degree heat alerts have been issued for the Łódź, Świętokrzyskie, Opole, and Silesian Voivodeships. They also cover predominant parts of the Greater Poland, Lesser Poland, Subcarpathian, Lublin, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, and Mazovian Voivodeships, as well as parts of the Podlaskie and Lower Silesian Voivodeships. In areas covered by first-degree warnings, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius. Heat-related alerts are set to remain in effect until Monday evening.

Severe Storms and Heavy Rainfall Expected

High temperature is only one of the threats. IMGW also warns of storms that may appear late Monday afternoon and in the evening. A second-degree warning has been issued for the entire Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and also applies to parts of the Pomeranian, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Mazovian, and Podlaskie Voivodeships. During the storms, from 35 to 55 mm of rain may fall, and wind gusts will reach up to 85 to 115 km/h.

First-degree warnings have been issued for parts of the Pomeranian, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Greater Poland, Łódź, Mazovian, Lublin, and Podlaskie Voivodeships. Residents of areas covered by the alerts should monitor current weather reports, as storms may occur locally. Storm alerts are set to be in effect from 5:00 PM on Monday, and in some regions, the alerts will remain in force until 3:00 AM from Monday to Tuesday.

Clear Division of Weather Hazards

The warning map shows a clear division of threats. The western and southern parts of the country will struggle primarily with high temperatures, while in the north, northeast, and partially in the center, storms will become a greater problem. In some voivodeships, both types of alerts are present. In total, heat warnings concern 14 voivodeships, and storm warnings affect eight.
