Who Leads the Right After the PiS Split? Fierce Competition and Upcoming Expulsions

A new poll reveals a fragmented right following the PiS split as over 30 parliamentarians face imminent expulsion and threat of a new parliamentary club.

Poll Results on the Right’s Leadership

In a poll asking who would now be the main leader of the right following the split in Law and Justice, as reported by “Super Express”, 42 percent of respondents stated they did not know or had no opinion on the matter. 20 percent of respondents pointed to PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński, closely followed by President Karol Nawrocki at 18 percent.

Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki was voted third by 9 percent of respondents, while 7 percent indicated Sławomir Mentzen of Confederation, and 3 percent named Grzegorz Braun. One percent of respondents indicated someone other than those listed in the poll.

Kaczyński’s Position Among PiS Voters

Regarding solely PiS voters, Kaczyński’s position as leader of the right is significantly stronger within this group, with 34 percent of individuals from this group indicating the current party leader. Karol Nawrocki was chosen by 26 percent of the PiS electorate, and Mateusz Morawiecki by 9 percent. The survey was conducted on a representative sample of 1,013 adult Poles between July 24 and 25, 2026.

Morawiecki Announces Plans Amid Expulsion Threat

The PiS Political Committee is set to approve the party expulsion of over 30 parliamentarians from Mateusz Morawiecki’s “Rozwój Plus” association on Tuesday. The former prime minister announced that if the association members are removed from PiS, they will establish a parliamentary club.

When asked if this would happen as early as this week, he replied that it was highly probable. Morawiecki also stated that Rozwój Plus would likely be the “working” name of the club. Asked if he would become its head, he replied that he probably would, but would also submit it to discussion.

Association Departure and Lorek’s Statement

On Monday, politicians associated with Morawiecki’s association reported that MP Grzegorz Lorek had left it. According to them, he signed the declaration required by the PiS leadership. Earlier, PiS spokesperson Rafał Bochenek wrote on the X platform that Lorek had signed a declaration on not belonging to associations of a political nature. Later in the afternoon, Lorek himself stated on X that as Lincoln used to say, he is not bound to win, but he is bound to be true to what he holds right.
