The former prime minister decided not to keep supporters or opponents in suspense, revealing the financial sources behind the “Rozw贸j + Wy” event.
Mateusz Morawiecki made a strong start on his new political path. Friday marked the “Rozw贸j + Wy” event鈥攁 long-awaited meeting between the “Rozw贸j Plus” association of former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and supporters of his initiative.
Association Dues Covered the Costs
When asked who financed the event, he reported that it was paid for through association dues. He explained that it was financed by those who contributed to the “Rozw贸j Plus” association, as the event was carried out as part of the social activities of the association’s members.
He also noted that the picnic was not a bone of contention. He assessed that people from genuinely different sides of the barricade appeared at the picnic, noting that younger people made up the majority alongside older attendees from local Poland, smaller towns, villages, and major agglomerations, including both employees and entrepreneurs.
Broad Demographic and Political Appeal
The politician reported that the association already counts hundreds of members, with thousands interested in joining the formation. Morawiecki explained that the “Rozw贸j Plus” association is meant for those who were ready to vote for the United Right government when its popularity reached 45 percent, noting that today that popularity stands at around 25 percent.
Mateusz Morawiecki added that the proposals of “Rozw贸j Plus” will also be directed to those disappointed with Third Way and the Coalition, as well as those who answer in election polls that they do not know who to vote for. Morawiecki stated that they will also try to direct their offer toward them.
The former prime minister announced that a great convention of the Rozw贸j Plus association will take place on October 15. When pressed on whether a new political party will be formed, Morawiecki replied that they have not decided this yet, adding that they will discuss their assumptions first.
Parliamentary Club Formation Amid Tensions
Friday’s barbecue took place in the shadow of political turmoil surrounding the “Rozw贸j Plus” association. As a result, politicians associated with the association announced on Wednesday the creation of a parliamentary club, which was officially formed in the Sejm on Thursday with 40 deputies and one senator, alongside support from three MEPs previously belonging to PiS.
At midnight between July 23 and 24, the deadline expired that PiS leadership gave its parliamentarians to submit a declaration鈥攗nder threat of exclusion from the party鈥攕tipulating non-membership in associations conducting political activities.
Last Friday, PiS leader Jaros艂aw Kaczy艅ski stated that a group of the party’s politicians resigned from membership, knowing the consequences of not signing. Politicians associated with “Rozw贸j Plus” emphasized at the time that they did not resign from PiS membership, and the statement did not concern party affiliation, while Morawiecki and his supporters claimed that “intriguers” wanted to push them out of PiS.
On Tuesday, the PiS Political Committee did not announce the expulsion of activists who failed to submit proper declarations, instead referring the matter for individual review by party discipline spokesperson Karol Karski. However, politicians associated with the “Rozw贸j Plus” association declared that, in accordance with Kaczy艅ski’s Friday statement, they consider themselves no longer in Law and Justice, leading to Wednesday’s announcement regarding the creation of a parliamentary club.
