Woman Swims with Pythons Around Her Neck, Escorted Home by Police

On Wednesday afternoon at the “Słoneczko” bathing area in Piotrków Trybunalski, a 33-year-old woman swimming with two royal pythons was ordered home by police after a public report.

Incident at the Bugaj Lake

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 5, before 5:00 PM at the “Słoneczko” bathing area by Lake Bugaj in Piotrków Trybunalski, Łódź Voivodeship. A visitor reported to the police that a 33-year-old woman was swimming with two ball pythons wrapped around her neck.

When a patrol from the Police Preventive Unit in Łódź arrived, the woman was still on the beach with the reptiles. The 33-year-old had adopted the animals about half a year earlier. To ensure the safety of beachgoers and the animals, officers instructed her to take the pythons home.

Police Inspection and Missing Registration

The officers escorted the woman home, where she placed the snakes into terrariums and showed the relevant documents. However, the officers noted that she had failed to register the animals with the District Office (Staroststwo Powiatowe), violating nature conservation regulations which carry a penalty of arrest or a fine.

Junior Aspirant Edyta Daroch of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Piotrków Trybunalski explained that under Article 64 of the Nature Conservation Act, owners of certain exotic species—including ball pythons—must register them in writing within 14 days of acquisition, and failure to do so carries legal consequences.

Police Appeal Regarding Exotic Pets

In an official statement, the police reminded the public that owning exotic animals entails responsibility and requires owners to ensure they pose no threat. Even friendly animals can cause distress to others, and public transport requires proper conditions to prevent the animal from feeling anxious, escaping, or turning aggressive.
