Wrocław Paralyzed by Flash Floods; Transport Disrupted

Intense flash flooding in Wrocław has paralyzed the city center, forcing authorities to divert public transit routes and close submerged roads following a series of violent storms across Lower Silesia.

Public transport chaos in Wrocław

Heavy downpours caused significant flooding across Wrocław, affecting streets and tram lines. Due to a submerged viaduct on Reymonta Street, transit authorities rerouted tram lines 1, 7, 14, 15, 16, and 24, with buses replacing the original routes. Flooding on Słowiańska and Św. Jadwiga streets, along with a fallen tree on the tracks at Szewska Street, further disrupted city services.

City officials noted that the situation resulted from intense, localized summer rainfall that exceeded forecasts. By the afternoon, the city announced that normal tram operations had been restored across the network.

Widespread storm damage in the region

Storms across the Lower Silesian province caused severe structural damage, including two roofs torn off residential and farm buildings in Wojanów. In Jelenia Góra, a warehouse roof was damaged, necessitating the emergency evacuation of 120 employees.

Safety officials implemented preventative evacuations for scouting camps in the Karkonosze, Kłodzko, Lwówek, and Wałbrzych districts. By 3:00 PM, the State Fire Service had conducted over 280 interventions related to storm damage, with the majority occurring in the Karkonosze district.

Meteorological warnings

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) issued storm warnings for the entire Lower Silesian province. Southwestern districts are currently under the highest, third-degree alert, while the remainder of the region remains under a second-degree warning.
