Żurek: ICE Filing Against Ziobro May Precede Formal Extradition Request

On Tuesday, Waldemar Żurek announced that while the formal extradition request for Zbigniew Ziobro remains in preparation, a letter to U.S. immigration authorities regarding the politician’s legal status is imminent.

Extradition Process Stalled by Legal Precision

During an appearance on TVN24, Waldemar Żurek explained that the extradition request for Zbigniew Ziobro is currently being finalized. The process is being delayed to ensure the documentation is airtight, specifically addressing concerns raised by a lower court regarding the substantiation of charges.

Prosecutor Woźniak is working to ensure the document is drafted with such precision that a federal court in the United States cannot find grounds to reject or challenge any of the points presented.

ICE Inquiry Regarding U.S. Residency

Parallel to the extradition efforts, Żurek is preparing a formal inquiry to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This document, intended to clarify the legal basis for Ziobro’s presence in the United States without valid travel documents, is expected to be filed within days.

The urgency of the ICE filing stems from recent actions taken by Hungary, which revoked the refugee status and travel documents of Zbigniew Ziobro, Marcin Romanowski, and Patrycja Kotecka-Ziobro.

Status of Investigation and International Pursuit

Zbigniew Ziobro faces 26 criminal charges related to irregularities in the Justice Fund, including allegations of directing subordinates to break the law to favor specific grant recipients. Ziobro maintains the charges are politically motivated.

Marcin Romanowski, also a suspect in the same investigation, is currently subject to a European Arrest Warrant. While Romanowski previously received protection from the Hungarian government, authorities now indicate he is no longer on their territory, with current efforts tracking his potential presence in Croatia.
