Paweł Śliz removed Aleksandra Leo as vice-chairman of Poland 2050 club for attempting to select representatives without his knowledge.
Dismissal Over Trust Issues
Club head Paweł Śliz clarified that he did not dismiss Aleksandra Leo from the club presidency, only from her position as vice-chairman because he lost trust in her. The issue was related to selecting representatives of the club to the party’s National Council. Śliz explained that he was at a family funeral on Thursday and intended to address the matter on Friday.
“Minutes before the funeral, I received a message that colleague Leo had prepared a resolution on conducting elections, in agreement with another member of the presidency, without informing the other members,” Śliz stated. He added that he planned to conduct the elections according to the club’s regulations during a Sejm session, which took place on Friday.
Attempted Coup
On Thursday morning, Poland 2050 MP Bartosz Romowicz reported on X that there had been an “attempted coup in the Poland 2050 club.” He claimed that “Aleksandra Leo, beyond her authority, tried to choose the club’s representation in the National Council behind Paweł Śliz’s back while he was dealing with very sad family matters. Mindless and heartless. That’s not the politics we came to,” he wrote.
Aleksandra Leo defended herself on Thursday in TVN24, saying she was only trying to “complete the composition of the National Council” because the previous mandates expired on Wednesday. “Chairman Śliz himself pointed me out as his successor to lead the club meeting. I was also substituting for him at the Convention of Seniors,” she emphasized.
Party Leadership Race
The party is currently in a tense situation due to an unsuccessful attempt to conduct a second round of voting for party chairperson. Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz and Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kłoska are running for the position. Last week’s online voting was invalidated, and the party wants to repeat the second round by the end of the month.
