Poland Announces New Lower Fuel Prices for Friday

Poland’s Energy Minister announced new maximum fuel prices effective Friday, April 17th, offering drivers a slight reprieve before the weekend.

Poland’s Fuel Price Mechanism

The current fuel price regulation system is based on solutions introduced within the government’s “Lower Fuel Prices” package. Daily announcements published by the Ministry of Energy on weekdays are a key element of the mechanism.

The new rates take effect the day after their publication in the “Polish Monitor.” In the case of public holidays, they remain in force until the next working day, ensuring regulatory continuity and limiting volatile price fluctuations.

Fuel Price Calculation

The maximum fuel price is not set arbitrarily. It is based on a specific formula that takes into account several key economic elements, aiming to limit excessive price increases while maintaining profitability for fuel market operators.

Price Controls and Penalties

The system also includes enforcement of regulations. Selling fuel above the established limit can result in a penalty of up to 1 million złoty. The National Tax Administration conducts inspections to verify both price levels and calculation methods.

Recent Price Adjustments

Compared to the previous day, the new maximum fuel prices represent further, albeit small, reductions at gas stations. Gasoline 95 now costs a maximum of 6.04 zł per liter, gasoline 98 costs 6.59 zł, and diesel fuel costs 7.18 zł. This represents decreases of 4 grosze, 2 grosze, and 5 grosze per liter, respectively.

While the changes are not dramatic, they continue a trend of gradual price decreases observed over the past few weeks, potentially benefiting drivers, especially during periods of increased travel.

Temporary Regulation

The administration emphasizes that the mechanism is temporary and primarily aims to protect consumers from sharp price increases resulting from external factors.
