Poland’s Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued first and second-degree warnings for intense rainfall expected Sunday and Monday.
Intense Rainfall Forecast for Western Poland
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) reports that a wavy atmospheric front will begin affecting weather in western Poland overnight Saturday into Sunday (April 18/19). This front is associated with a low-pressure system developing over Western Europe, bringing with it rainfall.
The IMGW states the synoptic situation will noticeably worsen throughout Sunday, peaking Sunday evening and overnight into Monday, when the heaviest rainfall is forecast. Warnings have been issued in anticipation.
Second-Degree Warnings Issued
Second-degree warnings are in effect for the voivodeships (provinces) of Lower Silesia, Greater Poland (excluding eastern counties), and Lubusz. Forecasters predict moderate to heavy rainfall, with accumulations of 40-50 mm, and locally up to 60 mm. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible. The alert is valid from 3:00 PM Sunday to 3:00 PM Monday.
First-Degree Warnings Also in Effect
First-degree warnings are in place for the following voivodeships. The IMGW forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall with accumulations of 20-30 mm, and locally up to 40 mm. This warning is valid from 10:00 PM Sunday, April 19th, to 3:00 PM Monday.
Orbán’s Village and Post-Election Sentiment
Journalists are reportedly unwelcome in the village of Viktor Orbán following recent elections, according to a report on Wyborcza.pl. While the formally outgoing Hungarian Prime Minister resides in a modest home in Felcsut, his family owns properties in the area worth hundreds of millions of złoty.
Sunday’s Weather Forecast
The IMGW forecasts maximum temperatures on Sunday ranging from 11°C in Suwałki to 13°C in Pomerania, around 16°C in central Poland and parts of Lubusz, and up to 19°C in Podkarpackie. It will be cooler along the coast, with temperatures of 8-9°C. Overnight temperatures will range from 1°C in the northeast to around 6°C in central and western Poland, and 9°C in the southeast.
