The first F-35 fighter jets procured by the Polish Air Force are expected to arrive in Poland within the coming days, with official ceremonies scheduled for mid-June at the 32nd Tactical Air Base.
Strategic Modernization for the Polish Air Force
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed the arrival of the fifth-generation aircraft, which will be stationed at the 32nd Tactical Air Base in Łask. The acquisition of these 32 jets, part of a 4.6 billion dollar contract signed in early 2020, represents a pivotal moment in the modernization of the Polish armed forces.
While the aircraft are already officially owned by the Polish Air Force, they have remained in the United States to facilitate the training of Polish pilots, instructors, and technicians. Although they are now in service, the formal process of integrating them into active duty rosters will continue over the coming months.
Deployment and Fleet Schedule
Poland plans to possess 14 F-35s by the end of 2025, with an additional 12 expected by 2027 and the full contract fulfilled by 2029. The aircraft, officially named “Husarz” in reference to Poland’s historic cavalry, will be central to the nation’s aerial defense strategy.
Infrastructure at the Łask base and the 21st Tactical Air Base in Świdwin has undergone significant upgrades to accommodate the stealth technology and advanced servicing requirements of the F-35 fleet, replacing aging Soviet-era Su-22 aircraft.
Technological Superiority and NATO Integration
Designed for multi-role operations, the F-35 serves as a cornerstone for NATO air forces, offering advanced reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and real-time data exchange capabilities. Its entry into the Polish arsenal significantly strengthens the Alliance’s eastern flank.
Polish personnel have been training at the Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Arkansas for months. The complexity of the F-35 system requires pilots to master advanced simulators and specialized software-driven combat procedures, marking a long-term transition for Polish military aviation.
