A marked police Kia, responding to an emergency call with lights and sirens, struck a sidewalk, a utility pole, and a preschool fence in Warsaw’s Bródno district this morning.
Collision on Bartnicza Street
Around 7:20 a.m. at the intersection of Bartnicza and Bolesławicka streets in the Targówek district, a marked police Kia patrol vehicle was involved in a road traffic incident.
Emergency Maneuver and Impact
Preliminary reports indicate the officer was traveling with lights and sirens engaged and was in the process of overtaking vehicles. As a Toyota driver began a turn, the officer steered to avoid a collision, causing the patrol car to veer off the road.
The vehicle mounted the sidewalk, sheared off a cast-iron pole, and collided with the fencing of Kindergarten No. 155. Fortunately, there were no pedestrians on the sidewalk at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The officer driving the vehicle was confirmed to be sober. Personnel from the Traffic Department investigated the scene to determine the precise circumstances of the incident. As the officer refused to accept a fine, the matter has been referred to court.
