Poland activates fighter jets and air defense systems in response to Russia’s massive aerial assault on Ukraine.
Russian Aerial Assault on Ukraine
Russia conducted a massive air attack on Ukrainian territory. In response, Polish and allied aircraft began operating in Polish airspace. “In accordance with existing procedures, the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces activated the necessary forces and means at his disposal. Duty fighters and an early warning aircraft are operating, and air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have reached the highest state of readiness,” wrote the Operational Command of the Armed Forces in a communication issued on Thursday, February 26.
Precautionary Measures in Poland
The Polish military noted that these actions are precautionary, with the goal of securing and protecting Polish airspace. “Particularly in areas adjacent to threatened regions,” stated the Operational Command of the Armed Forces.
Flight Alarm in Kyiv
During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, a flight alarm was declared in Kyiv due to the threat from enemy unmanned aerial vehicles. “We appeal to city residents to immediately go to the nearest shelters and stay there until the alarm is lifted,” wrote the Kyiv City Military Administration.
