Following a record-breaking fundraising campaign, the Polish Sejm will consider establishing a National Childhood Cancer Awareness Day.
Fundraising Campaign Success
The Sejm is responding to an appeal from Łatwogang following a hugely successful fundraising drive for the Cancer Fighters Foundation. The campaign, a 9-day livestream on YouTube, concluded on Sunday with over 251 million złoty raised.
Łatwogang appealed for April 26th – the date the campaign ended – to become officially recognized as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Day.
Sejm Speaker’s Declaration
Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced that the Sejm Chancellery will contact the organizers if they maintain their appeal for April 26th to be designated as the day. He stated, “We can do this,” and pledged to proceed without political interference.
Czarzasty stated in TVN24 that the Sejm Chancellery will reach out to the organizers to formalize the process, emphasizing a commitment to non-political involvement.
Campaign Origins and Record-Breaking Results
The fundraising effort was inspired by rapper Bedoes’ song “Ciągle tutaj jestem (diss na raka)” created with Maja Mecan, a beneficiary of the Cancer Fighters Foundation. The campaign broke the world record for the largest amount raised during a live charity broadcast.
Allocation of Funds
The Cancer Fighters Foundation, which supports both children and adults battling cancer, has pledged full transparency regarding the use of the funds. The money will be allocated to address the most urgent needs and maximize impact.
Transparency Measures
Due to the substantial amount raised, the foundation will create a dedicated website to serve as a public information center, detailing the use of every złoty. Transparency is considered essential given the scale of the funds.
