Poland’s ZUS (Social Insurance Institution) is shifting pension payment dates in May 2026 due to national holidays, impacting some recipients with earlier or later disbursements.
Pension Payment Changes in May 2026
ZUS is adjusting pension payment schedules for May 2026 due to public holidays. Individuals scheduled to receive payments on May 1st will receive their funds in April.
As a result, those with a May 1st payment date will not receive any funds in May. A revised payment schedule is available to check which groups are affected.
Holiday Impact on Payment Schedule
The May 1st Labour Day holiday necessitates the changes, as ZUS cannot process payments on public holidays. Transfers are moved to the nearest preceding business day.
A second adjustment is required because May 10th falls on a Sunday, also prompting a correction. Consequently, two groups of pensioners will receive their payments earlier than usual.
How the Adjustments Work
This mechanism is consistent with previous months, but the scale is significant in May, affecting a large number of beneficiaries.
Some pensioners will receive three pension payments in April 2026, with no payment in May. This situation requires careful financial planning for those affected.
Detailed May 2026 Payment Schedule
Here is the complete schedule, including all adjustments due to the calendar:
Standard Term | Day of Week | Actual Payment
1 May | Friday (Holiday) | 30 April (Thursday)
6 May | Wednesday | 6 May
10 May | Sunday | 8 May (Friday)
15 May | Friday | 15 May
20 May | Wednesday | 20 May
25 May | Monday | 25 May
The changes only affect the payment dates of May 1st and May 10th.
ZUS Rules for Payments on Non-Working Days
ZUS follows a rule based on regulations: if a payment date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday, the payment is made on the nearest preceding business day. This ensures continuous payments and prevents seniors from being without funds.
Lower Pension Amounts in May 2026 Explained
Many seniors will receive a lower payment in May compared to the previous month. This is because ZUS paid the 13th pension (additional annual benefit) in April, alongside the standard payment. May’s payment returns to the standard amount, resulting in a noticeable income decrease.
Checking Your Pension Payment Date
Each pensioner has a fixed payment date, one of six dates in the month. If someone doesn’t remember their date, they can easily check it through ZUS resources.
The schedule change does not affect the assigned payment date; it only applies to exceptional circumstances like holidays or weekends.
