Authorities in Ostrołęka, Poland, dismantled a criminal group producing illicit cigarettes, arresting seven individuals and seizing over 369,000 cigarettes.
Police Operation Targets Illegal Tobacco Production
Police in Ostrołęka conducted a raid targeting organized crime involved in the illegal production of cigarettes. The operation resulted in the dismantling of an illegal cigarette production line.
Officers simultaneously entered six homes and farm buildings in Ostrołęka and the Ostrołęka district, detaining seven people.
Organized Crime Group Led by Local Man
Investigations revealed the organized crime group was led by a resident of Ostrołęka, who has been arrested for a period of three months.
Large-Scale Seizure of Illicit Products
Searches led to the seizure of a total of 369,500 cigarettes without Polish excise stamps. A complete production line for manufacturing illegal tobacco products was also discovered and secured.
The production line included presses, cutters, dies with accessories, four metal packaging machines, wrapping machines, and numerous accessories used in the production process. Officers also seized 11 bags filled with tobacco, an electronic scale, and hundreds of zip-lock bags.
Charges Filed and Suspects Detained
Seven individuals were detained and held in police custody. Five of them have been charged with participation in an organized criminal group and the production of illegal tobacco products.
The alleged leader of the group faces charges of leading an organized criminal group and producing illegal tobacco products. The court has applied a preventive measure of temporary arrest for a period of three months.
Significant Tax Losses Incurred
Preliminary findings indicate that the criminal group’s activities caused losses to the State Treasury exceeding half a million zlotys in unpaid taxes.
