Warsaw Ursynów police have detained two men suspected of defrauding an elderly woman using the “police impersonation” method. The swift work of investigators led to the suspects’ identification and apprehension.
The court has granted a temporary arrest warrant for both men, who will face charges as repeat offenders.
Elderly Woman Targeted in Sophisticated Scheme
The incident occurred in Ursynów, where a 78-year-old woman received a phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer. The scammer convinced her to hand over a safe containing 87,000 złoty, vehicle keys, and important documents, alleging a threat to her savings.
Safe Remains Missing Despite Arrests
The woman handed the safe to a 25-year-old man, identified as the “collector,” who then passed it on to a 44-year-old accomplice. Despite the quick arrests, the safe and its contents have not yet been recovered.
Intensive Investigation Leads to Identification and Arrest
Criminal investigators from Ursynów immediately launched an investigation, analyzing available evidence and swiftly acting on leads. This allowed them to identify and detain both suspects.
Suspects Face Recidivist Charges and Potential Extended Sentences
Sufficient evidence has been gathered to formally charge the suspects. The court, on the prosecutor’s request, has ordered their temporary arrest. Both men will be prosecuted as repeat offenders, potentially facing a maximum sentence of 8 years imprisonment, which could be increased.
