New regulations will raise salaries for assistant and senior assistant prosecutors in Poland, with adjustments taking effect January 1, 2026.
New Pay Scales for Prosecutor Assistants
Salaries for assistant and senior assistant prosecutors are set to increase, according to a draft regulation from the Minister of Justice. The changes will impact pay starting in 2026.
Assistant prosecutors will see their base salary range from 6,700 to 8,240 PLN gross, while senior assistant prosecutors can expect between 8,240 and 9,270 PLN gross. These figures represent an increase from the current range of 6,500–8,000 PLN for assistants and 8,000–9,000 PLN for senior assistants.
Link to National Budget Increase
The salary increases are directly tied to the 2026 national budget law, which anticipates a 3% increase in wages across the public sector. Adjusting pay scales was necessary to fully implement these increases.
Implementation and Retroactive Pay
The new regulations are scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026. Employees will receive retroactive pay adjustments covering the period from the beginning of the year until the regulation comes into force.
Financial Changes Only
The changes are purely financial in nature and do not introduce new principles for remuneration. Only the minimum and maximum rates are being raised, while the overall system remains unchanged.
Assistants and senior assistants will continue to be paid according to the same rules, regardless of the specific prosecutor’s office they work in.
Systemic Criteria and Preventing Disparities
The draft regulation is based on clearly defined, systemic criteria for differentiating wages, taking into account both location and position, in accordance with the provisions of the Act on the Prosecutor’s Office.
Maintaining the current model is intended to prevent excessive pay disparities between prosecutor’s offices, which could lead to employee turnover or resignations.
Justification for Higher Senior Assistant Pay
The justification for the project emphasizes that higher salaries for senior assistants are fully justified, as they must meet additional requirements, including years of experience, an impeccable reputation, and often a passed judge or prosecutor exam.
Project authors believe that higher qualifications and experience should be reflected in the level of remuneration.
Legislative Status
The draft regulation is currently in the stage of coordination and consultation.
